Somatoform disorder is a mental health condition that causes your body to experience symptoms of a physical illness. It’s different from other mental illnesses because its symptoms are not caused by a chemical imbalance in the brain.

There are many things that can cause somatoform:

-Being too tired or stressed

-A change in diet that isn’t healthy for you (like skipping meals) or eating too much food at once (called binge eating)

-Too much exercise (or not enough)

-Stressful events like a family member’s death or divorce

-Changes in environmental factors like weather, temperature, pollution levels, etc.

It can be difficult to tell if you have somatoform disorder—you may not know you’re experiencing it unless you talk with someone about it. It’s important to talk to your doctor or therapist, who will help you figure out what’s happening and how to manage it.
